Research Award 2024 - Now closed to applications
Prize: £1500
ICHG is pleased to announce the 2024 round of its annual research award. The aim of this fund is to support its members to undertake:
a) Projects on ANY topic related to improving child health & wellbeing, with a global health outlook.
b) Projects which are research or quality improvement focused. There are no restrictions on methodology e.g., both laboratory-based or qualitative work is acceptable.
c) Projects which encourage collaboration, capacity-building, training and/or equitable partnerships
d) Projects which are achievable in a 12-month period.
Applications will be marked on project importance, feasibility, evidence of meaningful partnership and collaboration, and potential impact.
Eligibility
The 'Lead Applicant(s)' must be a member of the International Child Health Group (ICHG) (http://www.internationalchildhealthgroup.org). If you are not currently a member of the organisation you can sign up here: http://www.internationalchildhealthgroup.org/join-ichg. Membership is free to students and to residents of low-or-middle-income countries (LMICs).
Applicants can be from any profession or seniority; however, this award is particularly aimed at students, early career professionals or those who have not received funding in their own name previously. We particularly welcome applications from nationals or residents of LMICs and accept joint submissions from lead applicants from both high and LMICs which demonstrate genuine partnership and collaboration.
The grant holder is required to:
1. Aim to complete the project within 12-months of the funds being received.
2. Submit a 1500-word report to the ICHG on completion of the project (a template will be sent closer to the time).
3. Aim to present the findings, in person or via video link, at the RCPCH UK Annual Conference 2025 and/or one of the ICHG annual meetings (usually the Winter Meeting in December 2024).
4. While publishing the work is not an absolute requirement, successful applicants will be strongly encouraged to do so, in an open access format if possible; they can be supported through this process by the ICHG research leads, if required.

6. Proposed project location
7. Please list all supervisors and any collaborators, including contact details and affiliated organisations
8. Explain why this proposed research project is important (max 300 words)
9. Outline the general aim/title of the project and the specific objectives (max 250 words)
10. Outline and explain the research methods, including what the research outcomes are and how they will be measured/evaluated (max 350 words)
11. How will this award contribute to capacity or training in the proposed location? (max 200 words)
12. Does this project require ethical approval and are there any anticipated ethical issues that will be encountered? Please give details of how/from whom ethical approval will be or already has been sought. If not required, please state why this is the case (max 200 words).
13. Please provide a breakdown of projects costs and a short justification for the resources (max. 300 words). The award can be put towards salary(ies), travel or living allowances and/or consumables.
14. Have you applied for or are you in receipt of any existing sources of funding for this project? If yes, please give details (max 150 words).
15. Please provide a short official Letter of Support for your application and project (1-page, pdf), including a confirmation that these costs are required, either from your institutional research support office, senior supervisor, or line manager.
16. Please declare any conflicts of interest.
